HELP! My washing machine stinks.
Thinking your washing machine is done, you open the washer door thinking, "lovely laundry washed with a fine Hypno Casa laundry perfume scent". Notice instead of smelling a fresh, lovely fragrance, you find that it smells like sewage. Very annoying - how is this possible, what causes it and what can you do about it?
In most cases, a smelly washing machine is caused by something being left in or behind the drum. This could be old laundry, of course, but another possibility is that mould has got into the drum in combination with lint, dander or (pet) hair. This is called grease lint. This is the most common problem. In addition, detergents that are not completely dissolved can remain in the washing machine, so these can also eventually cause a foul smell. (Did you know we sell the organic replacement for your detergent? Laundry strips good for 30 washes, for any type of laundry, hypoallergenic, 100% plastic free, 100% vegan and 100% soluble).
Because we wash more often at lower Tempraturen (clothes 30°C), fat lice actually pops up. Besides causing a smelly smell, grease lice can actually cause stains in laundry.
If you feel that your laundry or washing machine is starting to smell, do not use too much detergent or more detergent perfume. This is a temporary solution but the smell will get worse in the long run.
There are plenty of remedies to get rid of this smell. Removing grease lice is quite easy and you can easily do this yourself. All you need is some cleaning cloths, soapy water and cleaning vinegar. We recommend doing this regularly.

The rubber edge of the washing machine is a place where a lot of dirt stays on and in, making it an ideal place for grease lice. Clean it thoroughly with a wet cloth and vinegar. Lice can remain between all kinds of grooves and cracks. To completely remove fat lice, you need to clean all slots and cracks. For this, you can use an old toothbrush, a small brush or a scouring pad. Especially if you use too much detergent, a lot of detergent can remain in the soap dish. Clean the soap dish thoroughly with hot water and vinegar if necessary. The washing machine filter filters a lot of dirt out of your washing machine. This filter also needs to be cleaned thoroughly from time to time, because fatty lice can form there, too. You clean the filter by opening the flap located in the lower edge of the washing machine. Remove the cap from the drain hose, empty it into a bucket, clean the filter, wipe the area with a cloth and put the cap back on.When cleaning the washer filter, you need to empty the drain hose. At this step, also clean the hose well and check if the screws of the hose turn freely. If they do not turn freely, clean them. Now that you have completely cleaned the washing machine itself, you can use a boil wash to thoroughly clean the inside of the washing machine. Every washing machine has a boil wash, which is a programme where the washing machine runs a wash at 90 degrees. Add a dash of vinegar and your washing machine will be completely clean again! If the washing machine still stinks after these steps, run another boil wash with a dash of vinegar and put 2 dishwasher tablets in the drum or a boil wash with just a dash of baking soda.
CAUTION: Do not do a boil wash with vinegar and soda at the same time. This is not good for the washing machine and triggers a chemical reaction.
